The Island

What would you say are the key themes of the film? Do you feel that the film really deals with the question it raises?

I think the key themes of the film is: clones, romance, escape from ”reality” and some kind of action/ violence- part inbetween. The main key of the film is cloning, because the whole movie is about two clones. And because the movie is about clones, the ”escape and violence-part” is the causes. As soon as Lincoln finds out that the Island doesn´t exist, he escapes (with Jordan), which will be one of the most important moment in the movie. The escape will at the end cause more justice and peace, which I suppose was Lincoln's goal at the beggining.

The Island belong both to the action and romance- category. It´s romantic because Lincoln at the beggining of the movie meets this beautiful girl (Jordan), then help her to avoid going to the Island, escape with her, fights toghether against the bounty hunters/ cops and finally get together at the very end. Not only that they can live in peace after the turbulense ending, rest of the clones were breaking free, and it all ended happy (I guess).
The movie is an Action-movie because of the violence. I think the movie needs  some obstakle, just for the excitment. The violence part also shows a more realistic view. If there wasen´t any obstakle, the movie would be boring and very short, because all the problems would be solved quickly. It´s also shows of how strong Lincoln and Jordan is, because they both survive these obstakle.

What does Jordan mean when she says, ”The Island is real. It´s us.” What, if anything, is this saying about the human hope for some paradise or for heaven?

I think Jordan mean that her and Lincoln´s romance is like living in a paradise. It is a pretty romantic and poetic thing to sa.. As she compare her and Lincoln´s romance with the Island, ofcourse she points at all the good rumers that the humans have been spread. The most important key is hope, which I think is the main- key with Jordan´s quote. All the clones wants to come to the Island, and for that they have to hope. If you compare this to the reality, christian people hope to end up in heaven after death (Unless that I think that heaven is a more polite place than ”The Island”).
